Raspberries

Bountiful Harvests • Sweet & Tangy • A Summer Essential

Raspberries (Rubus idaeus) are a staple of the home berry patch, beloved for their delicate texture, vibrant color, and sweet-tart flavor. Nothing compares to the experience of harvesting a handful of sun-warmed, vine-ripened berries right in your own backyard. Whether enjoyed fresh, baked into desserts, or preserved for winter, they are a rewarding and productive addition to your edible landscape.

Successful raspberry cultivation relies on choosing the right variety for your climate—distinguishing between summer-bearing (floricane) and fall-bearing (primocane) types—and providing consistent moisture, organic-rich soil, and appropriate support systems. Our nursery stock is selected for vigor, disease resistance, and fruit quality, helping you establish a productive and healthy berry patch that will thrive for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between primocane and floricane?
Primocane (fall-bearing) raspberries produce fruit on the current season's growth, allowing you to mow them to the ground each winter. Floricane (summer-bearing) raspberries produce fruit on second-year canes, requiring more careful selective pruning of old wood.
How do I know when they are ripe?
Raspberries are ripe when they have reached their full, deep color and gently pull away from the receptacle (the white core) with almost no resistance. If you have to tug, they are not quite ready.
Do they need support?
Yes, most raspberries benefit from a trellis or wire support system. This keeps the canes upright, improves airflow to reduce disease, and makes harvesting significantly easier and more efficient.
How much space do they need?
Raspberries spread via underground runners. Allow for a row width of about 2 to 3 feet, and provide enough space between rows for comfortable maintenance and harvesting access. Regular containment pruning will keep them within your desired area.
